ANDY HALDER WILL BE GOING IN FOR THE FIGHT OF HIS LIFE WHEN HE TAKES ON SCOTT DANN FOR THE BRITISH MIDDLE-WEIGHT TITLE AT PLYMOUTH PAVILLIONS FRIDAY 25TH APRIL 2005 HE WILL NEED ALL HIS BOXING SKILLS TO BEAT SCOTT AND AS ANYONE WHO HAS FOLLOWED ANDY'S CAREER KNOWS HE IS A VERY CLEVER AND SKILFUL BOXER METHODICAL GOING FORWARD WITH A GOOD SOLID PUNCH IN BOTH HANDS BUT IS ALSO VERY SKILFUL OF THE BACK FOOT, IT IS JUST A PITY THAT ONCE AGAIN HE IS FIGHTING SO FAR FROM HOME GETTING BACK TO SCOTT THIS LAD WILL BE IN ANDY'S FACE RIGHT FROM THE FIRST BELL AS STEVIE BENDALL WOULD TELL YOU ANDY HE HURT STEVIE WITH SOME GOOD BODY SHOTS GO IN THERE ANDY AND BRING ANOTHER BRITISH TITLE BACK TO COVENTRY.

Nice to see Rob Norton will be back in a Coventry ring this is one of my favourite photos of Rob when he was training at Kev's gym this was just after he had a sparring session with ex Coventry favourite Paul Butlin

Baz Carey the hard hitting bulldog who will fight anywhere and anyone certainly seems to have been Coventry's busiest fighter won 8 (3 ko's) - lost 12 - drawn 3 - tot 23  Baz has always been one of the Coventry fans favourites along with the other three musketeers Gareth Payne it is now over a year since Gareth fought anyone got any news on Gareth and not forgetting the other two THE TARTAN TERROR Tony Conroy and the Granite hard Andy Egan although I have heard once or twice that they are both back in training they have not been able to fight since 7th June 2003 I would like to see these lads back in a ring

What can you say about this man "SIMMO" he made his debut in London's Mayfair 4th October 1994 against Kenny Nevers winning on points over four rounds and has been Coventry's favourite Son in the ring ever since. How could any boxing fan ever forget the night he fought Peter Oboh 08-03-2003 and although he lost TKO round 11 of 12 like the records say you would have had to have been at the arena to have seen the courage and determination of the true warrior that is NEIL SIMPSON I hope things work out for you Neil and we see you in the ring many more times.

Stevie Bendall is another favourite amongst the Coventry fans although he has only boxed twice in Coventry as a professional he has only lost once in 22 outings and that was when he was stopped in the sixth round while fighting Scott Dann for the British title, Steve is still only thirty one and turned pro in 1997 since his loss to Scot Dann his rating has dropped but he is still at number six in the U.K.Middle-weight division. Steves two fights before Dann were Kreshnick Qato and Mike Algoet the 26 year Qato was a good young boxer and he certainly came to win and put up a really good show Stevie getting a points decision over 8 rounds, the fight against Algoet was more of a street fight the Belgian tried every trick in the book at the end of the contest Steve had a very badly cut eye but won on points. The fight that sticks out most in my memory was when he fought the highly rated Lee Blundell at Ponds Forge Arena Sheffield this was a fight that Lee was highly expected to win but Stevie demolished him inside two rounds, it would be nice to see Steve back in a Coventry ring.

Just before I close this boxing chat I would like to thank all the fans in the U.K and abroad and all the Boxers and trainers who keep in touch with each other through the Coventry Boxing Guest Book keep it up lads Cheers Jim, I will add a few more pictures before closing next report soon.

Do you remember this picture lads I think it was taken about four years ago when you trained in Leicester Andy Baz Gareth Tony the original famous four If you know the other lads name let me know

Just a mention of a couple of the guys behind the scenes these men are as dedicated as the boxers them selves ALAN PHILLIPS above and NEIL TOMLINSON below left who between them train a lot of the Coventry Boxers they put in a lot of time and effort and to any young boxer they will always have time to have a chat with you keep up the good work lads.
